Athletics nip M’s 2-1 in 10

The Oakland A’s squeezed out a 2-1 victory in front of what was left of 10,090 paid attendees in the bottom of the tenth last night.Ian Snell pitched a good game with the exception of the home run he gave up to Kurt Suzuki in the 4th.Oakland’s starter Dallas Braden struck out a career high ten batters and kept the Mariners off-balance all night with his wicked change-up.Braden also has an effective pick-off move which he used on Ichiro in the first to catch him napping.

Defensively the M’s played well especially Kotchman at first, however Lopez came up short on a few plays that a more experienced third baseman would have had.Wak gave catcher Adam Moore the start tonight along with Eric Byrnes in left sending  Milton Bradley to the DH spot.

Both Shawn Kelley and Mark Lowe came into the game and shutdown the A’s in their familiar roles.Unfortunately the new man in the bullpen Kanekoa Texeira from Hawaii couldnt close down the A’s in the tenth giving up the winning run on a single by Mark Ellis with two outs and two strikes.Baseball is a game of inches and this one could have gone either way.One thing is for sure the  M’s won a lot of one run games last year, but they are going to have to bang out more than five hits and one run to win games in the new season.
