Ian Snelly as Mariners stink losing 9-2

As I watched the game today I couldn’t help but notice a 4 year old kid behind home-plate wearing a NRA cap sitting with his clean-cut parents in the front row.Suddenly it occurred to me that our Mariners have taken on the persona of the city they represent.Unlike the lock and loaded Texas gunslingers our team looked like a group of techies sipping coffee  here in Fremont. The agressive Rangers unloaded for 9 runs on our four pitchers as we attempted in passive aggressive  Seattle style to be cerebral and out finesse them with a theory of pitching, defense, and speed.

We wait and look at pitches studying every little nuance and speculate what it would be like to actually be aggressive and swing at the ball then smash it over the fence. On the other hand our pitchers today seemed to be more concerned with showing off tattoos and adjusting facial hair then throwing strikes.Yes it was a Red state vs. Blue state kinda series complete with verbal attacks by the Texas fans on Bradley our lone hot-head.

Like a lot of you I bought a ticket for Opening day and I’m hoping the other writers and pundits aren’t right about the fact that you need more offense then we have to win in the West. One thing for sure it is a nice feeling to fly out of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport back to Sea-Tac whether you are just getting off a Tugboat after 90 days at Sea, or just having your butts kicked by the Texas Rangers. jeffsmariners.com

  1. I’m going to go out on a limb, and say the following things need to occur for the M’s to improve. #1, Lead Figgins off, and bat Ichiro second. #2 Give Byrnes some serious playing time. #3 Put Moore behind the plate to see if he can be the bat that Johnson is not. #4 Give Tui a shot at short, or let him play everyday in Tacoma until we get tired of Jack Wilson and then bring Tui up and play him everyday. #5 I’ve been a fan of Jose Lopez since he got here, so I want to keep him at third. #6 I don’t think Krotchman is the answer at first. At least ONE of the 8 positions needs to have a stud who can hit 30+ dingers, and drive in 115 ribbies. I don’t see a player on this roster who is going to do that. Good-luck Jack Z. I think you’re the best guy we’ve had in here for a long time-don’t get discouraged!!
