Steady as she goes M’s win 4-2

Tonight we saw the 2010 Seattle Mariners play the kind of ball that Jack Z. designed this team to do at Safeco field.Good starting pitching by Jason Vargas going 6 innings  no walks and 6 k’s,good defense, and timely hitting with two 2 out clutch hits. The Mariners won their first series of the year over the Oakland A’s as well.

Jason Vargas pitched a great game despite giving up the 2-run homer early on.Most importantly he had no walks. Brandon League came in and gave us a taste of what he can do with his wicked fastball and pitched scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th.Then Dutch Aardsma came in and closed it out.

We connected for 11 hits on the night, and yes no home runs but this is exactly the kind of team we have been waiting to come out on the field.A small but noisy crowd down at the Safe were treated to another clutch hit by none other than Milton Choir boy Bradley in the 5th. Milton shattered his bat with a line shot into left with two outs in the 5th to tie the game. And once again in the 6th we scored with 2 outs when both Lopez and Gutierrez singled to knock in the go ahead runs.

Tui got the start at first and contributed to the club with a single and good defense. Also Eric Byrnes got the start in left giving Milton Bradley the chance to focus on his hitting as the DH and he came thru.In another development Cliff Lee had his hearing regarding his possible 5 game suspension today. If we can stay around 500 ball and get Lee back in the rotation things should be looking nice in the early going of 2010. The Detroit  Tigers come to town Friday and the Mariners along with their Ace King Felix should be ready to go this
