Mariners Steam to 500 on Season!

It seems like months ago that the Mariners were 2-6 and we were all gloomy here in soggy Seattle. But after tonight’s 4-2 win over the visiting Detroit Tigers our boys are now playing 500 ball after winning 4 in a row! How did they do it tonight? Good Pitching, speed, solid defense, and timely hitting. Hmm but what about the Home run ball and how can we possibly win without Cliff Lee? Well tonight’s game was how. Starting out with a nice performance by Ryan Rowland-Smith who pitched into the 7th and got the win over Tigers Ace Jason Verlander.

A couple of regular contributors came up big as well ie Ichiro with 3-hits and a stolen base, and Franklin Gutierrez with two more RBI’s keeping his average over 400 and acting like a true # 3 hitter. Casey Kotchman also contributed a big blast in the bottom of the 7th just out of the reach of the Tigers Right fielder scoring Milton Bradley from second to put the M’s up 3-2.

Once again our infield continues to come up with the big double play when needed and tonight was no exception. The faltering Tigers did get a  lone Home-run from Ordonez in the 4th and tied the game in the 7th with a pinch-hit single by Johnny Damon, but our fighting sailors didn’t roll over.

Unlike the beginning of the season our guys are doing all the small things successfully now ie bunting, sacrifice  flies, key hits, and running like a group of wild-eyed fishermen from Ballard trying to catch last call in Dutch Harbor. This whole Blog experience is turning out to be quite an adventure, Lets see if we can make it 5 in a row tomorrow!
