I almost joined the 37,ooo fans down at Safeco field tonight but decided to stay home and save my money. It was another crushing loss the seventh in a row by the LA Angels who snapped a 7 game skid of their own tonight. On paper it appeared we had the edge going in with Felix Hernandez facing Jarrod Weaver. But it was apparent from the 1st inning where Felix gave up 4 runs that our Ace was not on tonight. Conversely Jarrod Weaver pitched a gem and had a no-hitter going until Griffey hit a single with 2 outs in the 7th. The only other hit for the Mariners came from Michael Saunders who delivered a double in the 8th.
Felix got bombed for 3 homers in the 4th inning and was yanked for Jesus Colome who along with the other relievers didn’t allow the Angels a run the rest of the way. I did notice that Jose Lopez had the old-school style socks tonight and was glad to see that someone was trying something new. For as we all know the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. This season though not quite insane is definitely a mind-blower.
One person who may want to try something new is hitting coach Alan Cockrell. Cockrell is in his second year and not much is heard about him in comparison to pitching coach Rick Adair. I think that is about to change.http://jeffsmariners.com
