Orioles trim Mariners sails 5-2

On another drizzly night in Baltimore the Orioles moved to 10-24 behind the starting pitching of 25-year-old Brad Bergesen. Ryan Rowland-Smith was shaky from the start and Wak pulled him early, trailing 3-0 for Ian Snell who gave up a couple of runs himself. tonight’s Mariners line-up had a new look with Langerhans in center, Saunders in left, Josh Wilson at short, and Tuiasosopo playing third. Jose Lopez who is showing signs of life was the DH.

This one could have gone either way as the Mariners had the bases loaded with one-out in the 4th before Josh Wilson grounded into a double play. The Mariners scored one run in the 8th and had two aboard when Jose Lopez drove Corey Patterson to the wall to shut down that threat. Again in the 9th the Mariners battled and were able to pick-up a run on a deep sacrifice fly by Ken Griffey Jr. coming off the bench as a pinch-hitter.

I give credit to Wak for trying to shake things up while we wait for Jack Wilson and Milton Bradley to get back into the starting line-up. It appears that Adam Moore is destined for AAA Tacoma soon as he looks lost at the plate. Will be interesting to see whether Ryan Rowland-Smith stays in the rotation. Eric Bedard threw a simulated game today and if and when he gets back into the rotation it appears RRS will be sent to the pen ,if not before then.

The Baltimore Orioles are struggling as well and we need to pick-up the win tomorrow with Felix on the mound to win this series before heading off to Tampa Bay.On another note today is Yogi Berra’s 85th birthday and wanted to acknowledge this Hall of Famer who was a great catcher and a colorful character as well.http://jeffsmariners.com
