The long voyage continues as Mariners lose 3-0

Sometimes a voyage for a Mariner working on a ship just never seems like it will end, as the weeks and months begin to melt together into a blur. This season the voyage for the Seattle Mariners baseball team has reached that point where one game or series is not that much different than the other long nights spent by this club and it’s dwindling fans.

The Angels completed the sweep of the three-game series today 3-0 in much the same way as the majority of the games have gone this season. Good starting pitching   in this case Jason Vargas was wasted again by an offense that not only is the worst in the majors this year, but is perhaps going to end up as one of the worst in  modern history.

It was a bit sad to drive by the vibrant and alive Qwest Field on the way back from a visit to a ship in Port, knowing the baseball season including tonight’s Rainiers game has all but been forgotten this year by the general Seattle population. It is great that both the Seahawks and Huskies football team won this weekend but indeed baseball is coming to an end soon once again this year in the NW without the joy and excitement surrounding postseason play.

Like some of you I will be following the payoffs and perhaps pick-up last years bandwagon team the Yankees and follow them as if I really cared. Last year it was an odd experience for me to be rooting for the Yankees though they won, so I am contemplating jumping on the Giants or Braves bandwagon to keep it interesting.

Yes I will be following football, but baseball is my passion, though the this year’s Mariners have done their best to kill my love of the game. Of course one thing I learned after going to Sea for 20 years, that this voyage like all the rest will some day come to an end and in this case it won’t be a moment to soon.http://jeffsmariners.com

  3. Let’s face it Jeff. People in Seattle are just losing track of the Mariners now that football season is starting. Props to you for sticking with it and constantly updating on the team.

    • Nathan, Yes of course fall is here and thus football which is great. Just lamenting on how nice it would be to have the Mariners in the play-offs again. Thanks for the comment and compliment re updates, it has been a grind in my first year as an expansion blogger! Jeff
