Spring training 2010

Hi, my name is Jeff. Welcome to my new 2010 Mariners Fan Blog. I’m a Seattle resident and have been following the Mariners for over 25 years during good times and bad. I love baseball and in addition to playing, coaching and being a fan of the game, I’m the Grandson of Gordon “Dusty” Rhodes MLB Pitcher 1929-36. Baseball is in my blood, and so is the sea after spending 20 years working on tugs and ships. I’m hoping to bring to my fellow fans a fun, informative and interactive Blog that we can all enjoy as we embark on the voyage of the 2010 season. Go M’s!

  1. Hi Jeff, first time I have visited your blog. Nice to see someone out there that is being realistic. I come down very firmly on your side of the argue ment here. The Mariners need a power hitter, not a pitcher. We have 2 or 3 hot young hurlers less than 2 years away, but the power we have that does not have a K problem is at least 2 years away. Proythress and Peguera I believe are our two best shots. However I think the best we can hope for is a bopper that is blocked from the majors. Lee is a rent-a-pitcher, and no one is going to give up MLB talent for him. However, there are several good AAA prospects out there that may be available. A 3 team trade is probably the best shot at those as you mentioned. Keep up the good work!

    • Hi Gary, Thanks for coming by. At this point I believe we should be looking for ML talent for Lee even knowing he is probably a rent a player. Housto gave us Feddie Garcia,Carlos Guilllen and John Halama for Randy Johnson who only pitched half a season there. I dont know why we have to settle for a prospect when we are talking about Cliff Lee here. At least at this point in the negotiations, if it comes down to the last minute and you have to get what you can then you take prospects. That is my opinion having done some negotiating myself…..Jeff
